SUMMARY:NAC-ISSA Sponsors Marc Sachs and "Securing the Power Grid"
DESCRIPTION:Securing the Power Grid  \n\n\n\nThe North American Power Grid\, covering the USA and Canada as well as a portion of Mexico\, is the largest machine ever constructed. To control and balance such a complex system requires plenty of computing power and a necessary exposure to external threats. This talk explains how the grid works\, outlines various threats to the grid\, and details specific grid security techniques and tactics. \n\n\n\nOur venue is the Auburn Innovation and Research Center at 345 Voyager Way. Catering is by Rosies and the door prize is a D-Link AC1900 Wi-Fi Router. Must be present to win! \n\n\n\nMarcus H. Sachs is the Senior VP & Chief Engineer at the Center for Internet Security\, Inc. (CIS®). He advises CIS leadership on engineering practices and processes and leads CIS’ engineering team of over 100 employees who develop and maintain various CIS products and services. Marcus represents CIS in a variety of public forums and activities and serves as an internationally recognized thought leader and advocate for CIS best practices\, solutions\, and offerings. Marcus retired from the US Army in January 2002 after serving a distinguished 20-year career as a Corps of Engineers and Systems Automation officer. After his military retirement\, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve in the White House Office of Cyberspace Security. In addition to being the Chief Security Officer at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) he has also served in senior leadership roles at SRI International\, Verizon Communications\, and Pattern Computer. Prior to joining CIS he was the deputy director for research at Auburn’s McCrary Institute for cyber and critical infrastructure security.

SUMMARY:DC256 Meetup: Delivering RF-Triggered Cyber Effects
DESCRIPTION:As platforms become increasingly networked and reliant on embedded systems\, adversaries are exploring new methods to deliver cyber effects—without ever touching the internet. This session explores the evolving threat of Cyber-Electromagnetic Convergence (CEWC)\, where RF signals are used to deliver or trigger malicious code\, disrupt bus protocols\, or manipulate system behavior. With real-world use cases targeting embedded systems\, attendees will learn how SDRs\, AI-driven waveform fuzzing\, and data bus injection techniques (e.g.\, CAN\, MIL-STD-1553) can emulate insider\, near-sider\, and outsider threat models. The talk will also examine key performance parameters and current technology gaps\, offering a roadmap for integrating CEWC realism into testing campaigns. \n\n\n\nTalk Title: Silent Intrusion – Delivering RF-Triggered Cyber Effects🔍 Topics Covered:• Cyber-Electromagnetic Convergence (CEWC)• AI-driven SDR waveform fuzzing• Data bus injection: CAN & MIL-STD-1553• Insider vs outsider threat modeling• Real-world case studies• Technology gaps in CEWC testingThis is a must-attend session for those in embedded systems\, RF\, cybersecurity testing\, or red / blue teaming.Note: This event is hosted by DC256 and is not a NAC-ISSA sponsored event. \n\n\n\nFor event details and to register: \n\n\n\nhttps://www.linkedin.com/events/dc256meetup-deliveringrf-trigge7335487754035769344/about
